Improved Non-Regenerative Active Front End Rectifier with Five-Limb Inductor
This paper proposes improvements to a low-cost, non-regenerative active front end rectifier system for variable frequency drives (VFDs) that uses a five-limb inductor to limit non-characteristic harmonics and reduce current distortion. The topology injects a 360Hz ripple into a split DC bus capacitor, allowing the use of film capacitors for ripple current and optimally reduced electrolytic capacitors for energy storage, achieving low distortion levels not previously attainable.
