Switchgear Safety Upgrade Solutions for Aged Installed Base

This paper presents novel solutions and risk mitigation strategies to reduce internal arc and accidental electrical contact hazards for aged switchgear, focusing on motorized closed-door racking systems that keep personnel at a safe distance. Two primary retrofit approaches are detailed: roll-in replacement with external motorization and hard-bus retrofill design, both aimed at improving operational safety on installed base equipment without requiring complete switchgear renewal.
