ACS1000 Variable Speed Drives in District Heating Case Note

This ABB case note describes how Mälarenergi, a Swedish power and district heating provider, replaced slip-ring motors and resistors with four ACS1000 variable speed drive systems (each 1765 kW) to control district heating pumps. The upgrade eliminated heat losses from resistors, increased electricity production by approximately 35 GWh per year, reduced CO₂ emissions, and improved pressure stability in the district heating network.
